SUBJECT: Results from the SLED Tools Survey
DATE:
MARCH 19, 2007
TO:
SLED Listserv
FROM:
Milosun Czervik

Some of you may recall the survey I announced via the list early last month. The response from the SLED community was lower than I expected (n=28), but I truly do appreciate those of you who took a few moments to respond. I did not do a whiz-bang stat analysis... just a simple tally of responses which may or may not be useful for some of you. Below, I've included their responses to the questions (by actual number, not percentages). In addition, I've included the open-ended responses left for some of the questions.

Nearly all of the scripts and gadgets asked about in the survey are available at, or on display, the ICT Library on Info Island. The free scripts and gadgets are also available at the newly opening Resource Centers on the New Media Center "Teaching" islands.

The survey included:

Part 1: Demographics

Part 2: Tool Usage (5 categories)
     a) Display Tools/Scripts
     b) Free Scripts
     c) Communication Tools
     d) Scripted Gadgets (Free)
      e) Scripted Gadgets (not free)
      f) Virtual Reality tools

Part 3: ICT Library Survey (results not necessary to include here)

At this point in time, I am just lurking and learning from the educator's listserv. When I complete my dissertation (April or August), I intend to review the emails I have retained regarding such issues as Display Tools/Scripts, Communication tools, Gadgets, etc. to learn how to do research within 2nd Life.

I generally produce all tools and in-world display systems I use myself.
